We all know that candy causes cavities, but for many of our patients in Littleton and Lakewood, the real "smile saboteurs" are hiding in plain sight. At Raines Over the Rockies, we want to empower you with the knowledge to protect your enamel between checkups.
The Acid Attack
It isn't just sugar that destroys teeth, it's acid. When you drink sparkling water, sports drinks, or even "healthy" kombucha, the acid softens your enamel. If you brush your teeth immediately after a highly acidic drink, you might actually be brushing away your softened enamel.
- The Raines Tip: After an acidic drink, rinse with plain water and wait 30 minutes before brushing.
"Grazing" vs. Meals
Every time you eat, your mouth becomes acidic for about 20 minutes. If you snack (or "graze") all day, your teeth are under a constant acid attack. By sticking to set meal times, you give your saliva a chance to neutralize the acid and remineralize your teeth.
Prevention is the Best Medicine
Our preventative program including routine cleanings and digital X-rays; is designed to catch the early signs of erosion before they require a filling. Let's work together to keep your "Quality Family Dentistry" routine simple and effective.
